Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are an essential component of a comprehensive program of skin rejuvenation at Coastal Skin and Eye Institute in San Diego. Our Board-certified dermatologists apply experience and artistry, for natural looking results. Dermal filler are injectables and non-invasive aesthetic procedures.

Our doctors utilize a range of fillers, with knowledge in the best uses for each, and how to combine them with other techniques for stunning results.

How we age

Starting around our late 20’s, collagen and elastin degrade faster than new collagen and elastin can be produced. As we gradually lose these structural components the skin’s tone and texture begin to change resulting in the development of fine lines and wrinkles. By age 50 hollowed out temples and cheeks, shallow and deep wrinkles, and folds, and jowling develop.  UV radiation (sunshine) and environmental factors further degrade the skin. With the help of cosmetic fillers, patients can slow the aging process and rejuvenate. Dermal fillers can take years off of your appearance without surgery.

How are dermal fillers used?

Cosmetic fillers may be requested as an initial treatment option or for patients seeking alternatives to surgery. Common filler uses include the following:

  • Plumping thin lips
  • Filling and smoothing the lines or parentheses around the mouth
  • Adding volume to the cheekbones or hollowed areas of the face including undereye hollows
  • Filling or adding volume to the hands
  • Improve the appearance of acne and surgical scars
  • Recontouring your chin, jawline, nose, and facial features

What happens during my consultation?

When you are considering cosmetic filler treatments, you may be wondering what to expect. First, schedule a consultation with Coastal Skin and Eye licensed cosmetic providers at Coastal Skin and Eye Institute.

Our physicians will assess your skin, your areas of concern, and discuss your goals and expectations. The consultation will determine if you are a candidate for cosmetic fillers, and the appropriate fillers for comprehensive renewal. Our practice offers Juvéderm, Juvéderm Voluma, Sculptra, Belotero, Radiesse, Volbella, and Restylane Lyft, Juvéderm Volux, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Kysse and more.

What happens at your filler appointment?

We frequently recommend using a variety of fillers to address different problems with the goal of complete rejuvenation. Before your injections, we will decide on the best combination of fillers and other treatments to help achieve your goals, including creating a map to establish the best places to inject in order to deliver the look you desire.

At your procedure your face will be cleaned, and a numbing agent may be applied if you have sensitivity, even though most fillers today contain lidocaine to diminish the pinch of the injections. After the injections, you may have some swelling and we will offer an ice pack to reduce that. Otherwise you can go about your usual day.

The Coastal Skin and Eye Institute team uses fillers and other techniques such as Botox®, chemical peels, and laser skin resurfacing to help patients look more youthful without the need for cosmetic surgery. These in-office procedures are brief, well-tolerated, and have little or no downtime. Yet results are amazing.
